Subject-Verb Agreement Nedir?
İngilizce'de özne tekil ise fiil tekil, çoğul ise fiil çoğul olmalıdır. Bu basit kural, karmaşık cümlelerde sık sık karıştırılır.
Temel Kural
Tekil özne + tekil fiil: She works hard.
Çoğul özne + çoğul fiil: They work hard.
Zor Durumlar ve İstisnalar
1. Araya giren ifadeler özneyi değiştirmez!
The boy with his friends is here. (boy = tekil)
The books on the table are mine. (books = çoğul)
The quality of the products is high. (quality = tekil)
2. Her zaman TEKİL olan özneler
everyone everybody everything someone nobody nothing each every
Everyone is ready. Each student has a book. Nobody knows the answer.
3. Either...or / Neither...nor
Fiil yakın özneye uyar:
Either you or he is wrong. (he = tekil)
Neither the teacher nor the students were ready. (students = çoğul)
4. Sayılamayan isimler TEKİL fiil alır
The news is shocking. The information is useful. Mathematics is difficult.
5. Toplu isimler (Collective Nouns)
BrE: The team are playing well. (bireyler vurgusu)
AmE: The team is playing well. (grup vurgusu)
6. Miktar/zaman/mesafe TEKİL fiil alır
Five kilometers is a long distance. Ten dollars is enough. Two hours is too long.
